Driveway Company in Airdrie
Prestige Paving & Landscaping Ltd has spent over 20 years laying driveways, patios and paths across Central Scotland, and Airdrie and the Monklands are a regular part of our work. You deal with the same small team throughout, from the free survey to the final sweep, with no call centres and no subcontractors.
Airdrie sits on high, exposed ground, so a driveway has to be built to handle frost and heavy rain. We excavate to the correct depth, lay a weed membrane and build a crushed-stone sub-base compacted in layers. That foundation is what stops the surface sinking, cracking or rutting over time.
- Honest advice and no pushy sales
- Clear, fixed prices in writing
- A considerate crew who clean up properly
- Homes and businesses, cards accepted
Monoblocking & block paving in Airdrie
Monoblock Driveways in Airdrie
Monoblock is the driveway we lay most in Airdrie: hard-wearing, repairable and available in a big range of colours, patterns and borders.

We install monoblock driveways across Airdrie, from Petersburn and Chapelside to Clarkston and Cairnhill, and out to Glenmavis, Plains and Chapelhall. From compact front drives to wide double driveways with paths, block paving copes with frost, rain and daily traffic, and it gives your home a smart, finished look.
We dig out the old surface, build a compacted stone sub-base and set the edging in concrete so the blocks stay put. Each block is laid by hand on a screeded sand bed and cut cleanly around kerbs, drains and steps, then kiln-dried sand is compacted into the joints to lock everything tight.
Falls are set to carry water away from the house, and because each block is laid separately, any section can be lifted and relaid later for pipes or cables without a patch.
Block Paving Styles
Herringbone pattern
The strongest pattern for driveways. Blocks lock together and resist movement from turning tyres.
Contrasting borders
A charcoal, red or Sky Cobble border frames the drive. A popular upgrade on Airdrie driveways.
Tumbled & cobble blocks
Rumbled blocks such as Sky Cobble give a softer, traditional look that suits Airdrie’s older sandstone villas and terraces.
Permeable block paving
Wider joints filled with fine stone let rain soak through, helping drainage and planning compliance.
Feature details
Inset diamonds, bands, curves and steps, with colours chosen to suit your brick, render and roof.
Re-lays & replacements
Sunken or tired block paving lifted, the base rebuilt, and relaid or replaced with new blocks.
How we build it
From dig-out to finished drive
Here’s how one of our jobs came together: a front garden turned into off-street parking with a block border.

Free survey & quote
We visit, measure up, check levels and drainage, and talk you through surfaces, colours and borders. You get a fixed written price.
Dig-out & groundwork
We excavate to the right depth, remove the waste, lay a weed membrane and install any drainage the driveway needs.
Compacted sub-base
A deep layer of crushed stone is laid and compacted in stages: the foundation that stops a driveway sinking or rutting.
Edging & borders
Kerbs and border blocks are set in concrete so the edges stay crisp and the surface can’t spread.
Your chosen surface
Monoblock, resin, tarmac or gravel is laid, levelled and finished by hand, with falls set so water runs away from your house.
Clean-up & handover
We clear every bit of waste, sweep and wash down, and walk you round the finished job.
Local know-how
Driveways for every type of Airdrie home
Airdrie mixes Victorian sandstone villas, big post-war estates and newer developments, all on fairly high, hilly ground. Each needs its own approach.
Front garden conversions
On busy streets in Petersburn, Chapelside, Holehills and Whinhall, parking can be hard to find. We turn front gardens into driveways, and a dropped kerb needs North Lanarkshire Council’s approval, which we’ll explain.
Older stone-built homes
Airdrie’s Victorian sandstone villas, especially around Cairnhill and the town centre, look best with tumbled blocks, cobble edging and natural stone.
New-build upgrades
Many homes on Airdrie’s newer estates come with a narrow builder’s drive. We widen it, add a border or replace it with monoblock or resin.
Sloping driveways
Airdrie is hilly in places, and sloping drives need careful levels, steps and channel drains so water runs away from the house, not into the garage.
Wider drives for more cars
Extending your driveway for another car, a van or a caravan, matched to your existing blocks or surface where possible.
Drainage done properly
Permeable surfaces, drains and soakaways keep rainwater within your boundary, which normally means you won’t need planning permission.

Resin bound driveways
Resin Driveways in Airdrie
A resin-bound driveway gives your home a smart, modern look with almost no upkeep, and more Airdrie homeowners are choosing one every year. Natural stone is bound with clear UV-stable resin and hand-trowelled smooth, leaving no loose chips and no gaps for weeds.
The surface is permeable, so rain soaks straight through rather than pooling, which helps with planning rules and keeps the drive dry underfoot. We lay Daltex colours such as Oyster and Platinum, usually with a contrasting block edge.
- Laid on a sound existing surface or a new permeable base
- No loose stones, ruts or weeds
- UV-stable resin that holds its colour

Tarmacadam driveways
Tarmac Driveways in Airdrie
Tarmac is a tough, great-value surface that suits Airdrie’s longer driveways, rural entrances out towards Plains and Caldercruix, and drives used by several vehicles. A block or cobble border gives it a sharp, tidy finish.
We lay it hot over a compacted stone base with edging set in concrete, then roll it to a dense, smooth surface that drains well and copes with frost.
- Block and Sky Cobble borders
- Front garden to driveway conversions
- Most tarmac drives laid in one or two days

Gravel & chip driveways
Gravel Driveways in Airdrie
Gravel driveways are quick to lay, affordable and naturally free-draining, which suits bigger plots and country homes around Glenmavis, Longriggend and Greengairs. With a compacted base and firm edging, the stones stay put and the surface stays level.
Chips and slate also work well alongside slabs or monoblock for front gardens that stay tidy with very little work.
- Gravel, slate and decorative chips
- Gravel grids for slopes and turning areas
- Kerb or block edging to hold the stone

Patios & paving
Patios in Airdrie
A patio should be level, solid and quick to dry after rain. We lay slab and natural stone patios, paths and steps across Airdrie and the surrounding villages, from a small seating area to a complete back-garden makeover.
For one recent job we laid Brookstone slabs in Sky and Meadow Stone in a two-tone design, with new lawns and smart edging.
- Concrete, porcelain and natural stone slabs
- Paths, steps and handrails
- Built with falls so water drains away

Repairs & restoration
Driveway Repairs in Airdrie
A worn driveway doesn’t always need replacing. If the blocks or slabs are still sound, a deep clean, re-sand and seal, or relaying a sunken section, can make it look close to new for much less than a full replacement.
If the drive has failed because there was never a proper base, we’ll tell you honestly that a new driveway is the lasting fix, like this one where worn red paving was replaced with new Sky Cobble monoblock.
- Sunken areas lifted, re-based and relaid
- Pressure washing, re-sanding and sealing
- Loose edging reset and drainage fixed

Garden landscaping
Landscaping in Airdrie
Once the driveway’s finished, many Airdrie customers want the rest of the garden to match. We handle hard and soft landscaping with our own team, so you get one quote and one finish for the whole property.
- Turf and artificial lawns
- Borders, edging and decorative stone
- Sleeper beds, fencing and complete garden makeovers

Good to know
Driveway questions we’re often asked
How much does a driveway cost in Airdrie?
Prices depend on the size of the driveway, the amount of ground to dig out, access, and the surface, border and drainage you choose. Tarmac and gravel tend to be the lowest cost, while monoblock and resin cost more but give a longer-lasting, lower-maintenance finish. We survey Airdrie driveways for free and give a fixed written price.
Is there any difference between monoblock and block paving?
No. Monoblock is the name most people in Scotland use for concrete block paving. A monoblock driveway in Airdrie uses the same blocks and the same method as any block paved drive.
Can you turn my front garden into a driveway?
Yes. We convert front gardens into off-street parking all over Airdrie. We excavate, build a compacted stone base and lay your chosen surface. A new dropped kerb needs approval from North Lanarkshire Council, and we’ll explain how to arrange it when we survey.
Do I need planning permission for a driveway in Airdrie?
Usually not, as long as rainwater drains within your own property, through resin-bound, gravel or permeable block paving, or onto a lawn, border or soakaway. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas may be different, and dropped kerbs always need council consent.
How long does a new driveway take to lay?
Most Airdrie driveways take one to four days. Tarmac and gravel are often laid in a day or two; larger monoblock or resin drives with borders, steps and drainage take a little longer. We confirm the timescale before work starts.
Can sunken block paving be fixed?
In most cases, yes. We lift the sunken blocks, rebuild and compact the base underneath and relay them so the repair matches. If the drive never had a proper base, we’ll give you an honest opinion on whether replacing it is better value.
How do I look after my monoblock driveway?
A weed membrane and well-filled joints keep most growth out. Every few years a professional clean, re-sand and seal will remove moss and bring the colour back. We offer that service across Airdrie.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes, all of our work is guaranteed. We’re a vetted Checkatrade member, rated 9.83/10 from 50 verified reviews, and Checkatrade’s £1,000 guarantee applies to eligible jobs (their T&Cs apply).
